The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-tunnel is located between Virginia’s Eastern Shore and South Hampton Roads, Virginia. This is the only direct route, and the other option is about 95 miles long. So not only is the bridge a faster trip it is also awesome! Being one of the seven engineering wonders of the modern world, this is a must do on your Virginia Bucket List.
There are two tunnels, each a mile long, and the rest is above water. This is one of the scariest bridges in America, but not because of the safety, this bridge exceeds federal safety guidelines. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-tunnel takes about a half hour to travel the 17.6 mile to the other side. Use your ez-pass to pay the toll.
To really get the whole experience participate in the Bay Bridge Walk/Run across the The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-tunnel. Starting in 2021, they host an annual Bay Bridge Walk/Run in November. This year it will be November 13, 2022. This is the only time of the year you can walk across the bridge.
