This fast paced week long road trip itinerary is going to take you on hikes in some of the coolest places in Ohio, to the White House, on a stroll around D.C., you’ll see wild horses on the ocean, and even some giants. You’ll travel across and under the ocean in the world’s longest bridge/tunnel, visit an old fort, hang out on the beach, watch street performers, explore caves, and find your way through a huge maze. Have your bags packed and ready to hit the road by 5am. It’s time for an adventure!
Drive: 7.5 Hours
Hocking Hills State Park

Arrive: 12:30pm Depart: 7:00am
Hocking Hills State Park is amazing. There are short hikes and there are long hikes. The views are amazing! Take a short hike today and have dinner then go to hotel for the night.
Day 2
Hocking Hills State Park

Arrive: 7:00am Depart: 3:00pm
Wake up in the morning get another hike in before its time to go. If you have time for a whole day here it would be nice to be able to do a long hike. The hikes here are just amazing!
Drive: 6.25 Hours
Washington, D.C.
Arrive: 9:30pm Depart: 6:00pm
With so much free stuff to do in D.C. you can spend days here and still not pay or see everything. This is an awesome place to see a lot of free places in one spot. You can even see the White House. Spend the day checking out all of the history D.C. has to offer!

Day 3
Assateague Island National Seashore

Arrive: 9:00pm Depart: 5:00pm
Come see wild horses and enjoy swimming at the beach. You can also camp and kayak here.
Drive: 1.75 Hours
Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel
Arrive: 7:00pm Depart: 8:00pm
Drive thru maybe one of the coolest bridge/tunnels in the country. This is a must do when you are in the area.

Day 4
Fort Monroe Visitor & Education Center

Arrive: 9:00pm Depart: 7:00pm
Come check out this awesome fort. Drive around and take some awesome pictures. When you are done seeing the fort you can go relax at the beach. If you want to leave before 6 pm I would check drive times as they can be very long.

Virginia Beach
Arrive: 8:00pm Depart: 8:00am
If you arrive early enough and get a hotel on the ocean you can go check out the street performers. They have blocks of people playing music, doing shows, and making one of a kind art you can buy. This is one of the best things about Virginia Beach. But if you don’t make it in time that’s also fine there is always tomorrow.
Day 5
Virginia Beach
Arrive: 8:00am Depart: 6:00am
Leaving your car in the same spot all day will save you parking fees. You can go fishing off the pier, no fishing licensed required. You can pay a small fee ($10 adult or $5 for 12 and under) to fish or you can pay an even smaller fee ($2) to just go take in the view. When you’re done go sit at the beach and take in the sun. Before you leave take your time to check out the entertaining street performers.

Day 6
Luray Caverns

A National Landmark. Come check out some awesome caves. This is one of the largest caverns in the eastern side of the USA. With your admission you also get a tour of Car & Carriage Caravan Museum, Toy Town Junction, and the Shenandoah Heritage Village. Making this well worth a check off the bucket list.
Short Walk
The Garden Maze at Luray Caverns

Arrive: 2:00pm Depart: 3:00pm
Come see if you can make it thru the maze! This is a handicap accessible maze and easy for strollers as well. You can drive the whole 9.5 hours or you can break it up, and spend the night somewhere in between.

Day 7
Bernheim Arboretum & Research Forest

Arrive: 12:00am Depart: 12:00pm
Come see some awesome artwork. These gentle giants are made of recycled wood. They are huge! They also have a great little café where they grow the food onsite, so make sure you eat your lunch here. This is a must do on your bucket list; but make it fast they say, the giants won’t be there forever.

Indiana Dunes National Park

Arrive: 4:30pm Depart: 10:00pm
You can come and see what the dunes are all about and don’t forget to watch the beautiful sunset on Lake Michigan.

Day 8
Petoskey, Michigan
Arrive: 3:00am
You can tighten up your time a little and get home before 3am, or you can stretch it out and stay another day. Either way we hope you had fun on this road trip!
