Fort Monroe is the largest stone fort ever built in the United States.

Registered as a National Monument and a National Historic Landmark, the fort is an amazing site to see. While here also visit the 1619 African Landing Memorial, the Casemate Museum, and Outlook Beach.

The Fort Monroe Visitor & Education Center is only 30 miles from Virginia Beach, and the perfect addition to your Virginia Beach Itinerary. Make sure to time your visit from Virginia Beach right to avoid heavy traffic times, as it does get pretty backed up. Regardless of the traffic Fort Monroe is definitely worth the visit.
