Salem Sue was built in 1974 for $40,000, funded by donations from local farmers and residents, and sponsored by the New Salem Lions Club. The artist behind this impressive statue, Dave Oswald, is also known for designing the world’s largest catfish in Wahpeton, North Dakota. Constructed entirely out of fiberglass, Salem Sue is hollow and weighs about 12,000 pounds.
