A treasured little spot; a bit of history, a bit of romance, and a bit of Lake Michigan breeze. The sound of horse hooves clip-clopping on the pavement, the waft of lilacs mixed with a hint of horse – you know …. there is no better place to step back in time and relax then Mackinac Island, Michigan!

A place to take it slow and just be….sit in the park and listen to some live music, wander into the hills and find hidden treasures you don’t hear about or see unless you venture away from the main road of fudge, shops and restaurants.

There is much to see up in the hills, much to explore and enjoy – walking or on a Bike. We rent from Mackinac Island Bike Shop; very affordable prices and nice Bikes with baskets ( put your free water here.) Adventure the woods, see Arch Roc, and check out the airport!

Don’t get me wrong – I spend plenty of time shopping the cute shops, and I enjoy Ryba’s chocolate walnut fudge while sitting on a main street bench watching people enjoy life.

We stayed overnight at the Windermere Hotel. It was historic, quaint and just what I would expect from a Mackinac Island Hotel. No T.V. in the room – but it overlooked the main drag and in the morning along with the cool lake breeze was the early morning clop of hooves.

This is a very child friendly place to enjoy a day, or two, and although you can’t Road Trip ALL the way here – you can get pretty close.

Park the car in Mackinaw City or St Ignace, take the ferry and step away from the hustle and bustle.
