History of the National Trout Memorial

The National Trout Memorial was created to honor the area’s trout fishing heritage and to celebrate Kalkaska’s title as the “Trout Capital of Michigan.” Since its creation in 1966 by sculptor Leo Nelson, it has stood as a proud symbol of the community’s connection to trout fishing.
