Welcome to West Virginia

West Virginia is almost heaven, a state that is nearly all mountains, forest, and winding country roads. Its crown jewel is the New River Gorge, one of the newest national parks in the country, where a thousand-foot-deep canyon holds world-class whitewater and one of the tallest steel arch bridges anywhere. Here is a fun twist: despite its name, the New River is actually one of the oldest rivers on Earth. Once a year, on Bridge Day, people legally leap off that famous bridge with parachutes. Beyond the rapids, you can ride vintage steam trains deep into the Appalachians, hike past coal towns slowly being swallowed by the forest, and camp under some of the darkest skies in the eastern United States. Below you will find every West Virginia map, trip, guide, and hidden gem we have.
